Like a Virgin: Vintage Madonna
Mon, 21 Apr 2008 16:43:22 PDT
All of this recent Madonna exposure makes me a little sad. Too many pumped muscles, too much shiny purple and too much shiny hair. Not that I am going to sit here and criticise Lady Madonna, but give me the rough edges and genuine rebellion of her “Like a Virgin” days any, well, day. In ...]

Gwen Maximizes Her Bump
Mon, 21 Apr 2008 17:08:21 PDT
Even if the maxi-dress wasn't already one of spring's hottest trends, Gwen would still be working the look as one of her signature maternity styles, here at a party with hot hubby Gavin and his mini-me, soon to be big brother Kingston. We're just happy she seems to have chosen one that DOESN'T look like it came from Forever 21... not that there's anything wrong with that! Cutest. Family. Ever.

Personal and Professional Personas in Social Networks
Mon, 21 Apr 2008 18:04:53 PDT
In the Facebook 210 course I describe a way to use Facebook’s Friend lists to create a “work-safe” profile that is less likely to cause professional problems, when that high school classmate or college buddy tags you in a questionable photo or writes on your wall. Advertisers nervous about the neighbours in MySpace
Mon, 21 Apr 2008 18:13:15 PDT
Interesting development for News Corp’s share price, with analysts in the US lowering their estimates of the stock’s value due to an expected failure of the company’s social networking site, MySpace, to meet its 2008 advertising revenue target. You might think that a commercial property with nearly 108 million users would be an attractive prospect for advertisers, but Bloomberg.com reports that marketers are nervous about placing their ads alongside MySpace’s user-generated content. Facebook Lexicon: Kinda Fun, But Useful?

Facebook just recently released a fun new thingy called Lexicon. It shows you a graph of the occurrences of certain words or phrases over time on all Facebook walls. Since I do quite a lot of research using Facebook, I thought I’d take a look at it. Facebook has some suggested phrase pairs that you can use such as “party tonight” and “hungover.” And as expected, the phrases are cyclical and you tend to see a spike in “hungover” the day after “party tonight.” But it’s worth noting that you ca
